Social Justice Defined: Sandy Hutchens
There is not one definition of "social justice" which is embraced by everybody. Many thinkers and social philosophers are skeptical of the idea that there exists an absolute and objective standard of social justice. Moral relativists deny it for sure. Non-cognitivists, moral skeptics, moral nihilists, and most logical positivists don't even allow for the possibility of objective or absolute notions of justice. Cynics believe that ideas of social justice are merely a rationalization for the status quo. Social darwinists are of the belief that social justice enables the least fit to reproduce and should be opposed.
Sandy Hutchens doesn't claim to know it all or be a social philosopher but when he thinks of social justice he thinks of people treating other people humanely, charitably and with respect. There is much injustice and suffering in the world and if we can alleviate it in any way, particularly within our own spheres of influence, we should do so.
